Orkubú Vestfjarða ohf. is preparing a tender for the civil works for the Kvíslatunga Hydropower Project in Selárdalur, Steingrímsfjörður. The tender documents are expected to be published in mid-October 2026, with construction works scheduled to take place during the period 2027–2029. Due to the time of year and weather conditions at the project site, interested contractors are invited to attend a site visit before publication of the tender documents. General Overview of the Works Kvíslatunga will be a 9.9 MW hydropower plant located in Selárdalur, Steingrímsfjörður, approximately 20 km from Hólmavík. Access to the construction site is from Djúpvegur (Road 61), via Strandavegur (Road 643) to Geirmundarstaðavegur (Road 6433), and finally along the newly constructed access road, Kvíslatunguvegur, leading to the site of the proposed powerhouse. Just south of the proposed powerhouse, a new 5 km road runs up Leitishlíð to the location of the proposed intake structure. This road is still under construction. Main Estimated Quantities Included in the Forthcoming Tender Excavation – 370,000 m³ Dam fill – 380,000 m³ Reinforcement steel – 140,000 kg Concrete – 1,550 m³ Precast concrete elements – 340 m² Installation of pressure pipeline, Ø1000–1400 mm – 3,000 m Material Sources Suitable material for concrete production is not expected to be available at the project site. The contractor should therefore allow for sourcing materials for concrete production from elsewhere. Permits The hydropower licence has been issued. However, the construction permit has not yet been issued, as amendments to the municipal master plan and detailed local plan are currently being prepared following geotechnical investigations carried out during the summer of 2026. The construction permit is expected to be issued during the first quarter of 2027. Site Visit Orkubú Vestfjarða ohf. invites interested contractors to attend a site visit to the proposed construction area. The site visit is provisionally scheduled for 8 or 9 October 2026 at 12:00, depending on which date is more suitable in light of the weather forecast and site conditions. If weather or site conditions do not permit a site visit on either of these dates, the visit may be postponed until after the weekend. Contractors wishing to participate in the site visit shall register by email at jbh@verkis.is no later than 7 October 2026. Registered participants will be informed of the final date and meeting point closer to the time, taking into account the weather forecast and site conditions. Due to conditions at the site, participants must use suitably equipped modified 4x4 vehicles fitted with tyres of at least 35 inches, or six-wheel all-terrain vehicles. An overview map of the project area and further information will be available on Orkubú Vestfjarða’s tendering portal: https://in-tendhost.co.uk/orkubu/ Please note that this advance notice and site visit do not constitute a formal contract notice or invitation to tender, and participation in the site visit is not a prerequisite for participation in the forthcoming tender procedure. Any information that may be relevant to the preparation of tenders will be made available to all tenderers on an equal basis as part of the formal procurement procedure. If access to the site proves necessary for the preparation of tenders, all tenderers will be provided with equivalent access to the project site.
