The Norwegian Environment Agency has set aside NOK 1 million per annum to monitor antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the environment. We now want input on how this monitoring should be carried out in order to get the most out of the allocated resources. The programme shall deliver data to the Water Directive ́s work and possible requirements for monitoring AMR. Therefore the station network for the programme has been set. The monitoring shall be carried out in water samples from stations where the substances on the water directive ́s observation list (watchlist) are already being examined (European Commission, 2025). We are particularly interested in input on which genes you believe are most important to examine and the proposed method for examining resistance genes. The deadline for submitting feedback is 15 December 2026. Input is to be sent to Bård Nordbø and Madelen Hegrestad (Madelen.Hegrestad@miljodir.no and bard.nordbo@miljodir.no).
